Evil Geniuses has no plans to close the CS: GO division. This was announced by the head of the club’s esports direction Greg Kim in a comment for HLTV.
“Counter-Strike is one of the oldest disciplines in eSports and one of the most important areas of Evil Geniuses. However, the health of our players and coaches is a priority for the organization. As the number of COVID-19 cases around the world continues to rise, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the final tournaments of the year to avoid exposing the squad to the risks of playing in other countries. We will continue to evaluate opportunities for participation in the championships, taking into account the industry’s adaptation to the pandemic. We look forward to returning to the competitive scene next year. ”
Earlier, rumors appeared on the network that EG had begun looking for a buyer for the CS: GO roster. The team refused to participate in two European championships – DreamHack Masters Winter 2020 and IEM Global Challenge 2020. At the first, the team was replaced by Cloud9, and the vacant slot in the final tournament of the year went to Team Liquid.
